A Swindon company has helped ensure that the world is kept up to date with the latest news on the ongoing crisis in Libya.

Audio visual equipment and conferencing hire company RTS Communications provided ‘host radio broadcast facilities’ – where radio journalists could interview politicians, create their news reports and broadcast them live to their station – for the Government’s recent international conference on the current situation in Libya.

The international conference was held at the Queen Elizabeth II Conference Centre in Westminster, London and involved representatives of the 40 countries involved in the UN-backed intervention in Libya.  The aim of the conference was to discuss the current issues in the country and the command structure for the allied military operations.

RTS Communications’ facilities ensured that all of the statements and press conferences were recorded and provided to international radio stations that were not able to be in London. These recordings could also be accessed by journalists at the conference and used as audio clips in interviews and news reports that were then beamed back to stations in their respective countries.

Where necessary RTS provided translated audio for the proceedings as they hosted a number of international politicians and journalists, as well as sending the recordings to a number of foreign radio stations who were not able to be in London.

Mike O’Sullivan, operations manager for RTS Communications in Swindon, said: “Due to the turbulent political landscape in Libya, the conference was arranged at fairly short notice.  This, however, is something we can accommodate well and are used to.   Our equipment is state of the art and our team exceptional in pressurised situations so we know we can handle assignments like these.

“It was vitally important that we could provide reliable equipment and services available to a large number of people at the same time with capacity to transmit all over the world.  This was a truly global event and all eyes were on us to succeed.  We’re pleased to say that from our side, the day went without a hitch.”
