Swindon solicitor Chris Kane is to climb Mount Kilimanjaro to raise money for Help for Heroes, the charity which helps wounded servicemen and women.
Chris, partner in the dispute resolution team at Withy King solicitors in Swindon, will be scaling the 5,895 metre peak in June as part of a 40-strong team which includes Bath and former England Saxon rugby player David Barnes, who is organising the climb to raise money for a number of charitable causes as part of his testimonial year.
Chris is well on his way to achieving this target of raising £20,000 for Help for Heroes thanks to the support of lead Withy King, HSBC and accountancy firm Baker Tilly, which are funding the cost of the trip, ensuring every penny raised from sponsors and individual donors goes direct to the charity. A number of Swindon businesses have got behind Chris’s appeal and contributed £250 each to become corporate partners.
Chris said: “I feel very privileged to have the opportunity to publicly acknowledge the tremendous courage and commitment shown by our injured servicemen and women and make just a small contribution to their rehabilitation. Help for Heroes is a fantastic charity and makes a real difference to the lives of some extraordinary men and women.
“I’ve been training hard and have set up a running club at work to make sure I’m at my fittest. I’m looking forward to the climb – it’s definitely a once in a lifetime experience and arguably the biggest challenge of my life…so far!”
The climb takes place between June 2-12. To sponsor contact Chris on 01225 352 865 or 07976 573 013, email chris.kane@withyking.co.uk or visitwww.bmycharity.com/kilimanjaroJune2011.
