Revised Locarno plans rejected

The revised plans for the redevelopment of the iconic Locarno building have been rejected by the Swindon Council planning committee.

The building, which was destroyed by a fire in 2003, has stood derelict ever since, with every redevelopment plan being rejected by the council.

The revised redevelopment, that was granted planning permission in 2008, was going to centre on a 117-bedroom hotel, a restaurant, 84 apartments and new 133 space underground car park.

The original plans were much more extensive including more apartments, offices, two restaurants and a café, however due to economic downturn the development had to be re-examined.

And they will have to be re-examined once more.
