BCA sets up logistics division in Swindon

November 17, 2009

Swindon-based Book Club Associates (BCA), Britain’s biggest mail order bookseller with more than 40 years’ experience of book order fulfilment, has launched Groundwell Logistics, a new warehousing, order fulfilment and business services organisation which will act as a separate spin-off business and serve the mail order and e-commerce sectors.

BCA was acquired by Munich-based industrial holding Aurelius from publishing giant Bertelsmann  at the beginning of 2009 and has “continued to challenge its traditional business model as it divides the business into two clear offerings – order fulfilment logistics and direct to consumer book sales,” according to a statement.

Commenting on this development, Tony Day, managing director of Groundwell Logistics says: “Anyone who has seen our impressive operation and warehousing systems here in Swindon will have no doubt that we’re ready to take on more work from third party clients.

“We are very experienced in both bulk distribution as well as the finely tuned business of getting unique and small orders out directly to the consumer’s home.

“This expertise places us ideally as a leading distributor to support the burgeoning e-business sector and we look forward to rising to the challenge.”

Groundwell Logistics will continue to fulfil orders in the UK and Europe for Britain’s largest mail order book clubs. Its extensive warehousing, pick and pack and back office service facilities enable them to provide comprehensive service to clients, the company said.
