Excalibur, the Swindon-based IT and communications support company, and regional law firm Royds Withy King, which has offices in Swindon and Marlborough, have been named among the top 100 organisations to work for in the UK.

The firms appear in the prestigious Sunday Times Top 100 Best Companies lists, published recently and which measure how engaged people are at work and how they feel about their employer.

Excalibur Communications enters the lists for the first time, coming in at 55th place in the Top 100 Small Companies listing, which includes businesses with 50 to 250 staff.

Excalibur was also ranked eighth for ‘giving something back’ - with 98% of its staff agreeing that the company supports good causes.

Royds Withy King is ranked 30th in the 100 Best Mid-Sized Companies to Work for table and rated ‘extraordinary’ – the top accolade.

Excalibur head of HR, Carly Deacon, said: “As a company that is very people-focused, to see that our team value our place of work as much as we value our team is extremely positive.

“Engagement is integral to our continued growth and success.  We are now committed to maintaining a place in The Sunday Times Top 100 Small Companies and our maximum star rating.  As ever, will always look at ways we can improve”.

Royds Withy King, formed last year from the merger of regional firm Withy King with London-based Royds, is one of just six law firms from across the UK to be awarded the coveted three star ‘extraordinary’ rating.

Managing partner Graham Street said: “This award, which is independently judged based on confidential feedback from our lawyers and support staff, is testament to the environment and culture we have worked so hard to achieve and is reflected in the dedicated service every member of our team is committed to providing to our clients and the wider communities we serve.

“Our growing reputation as lawyers ahead of the curve is only possible by nurturing, motivating and developing our most valued asset – our people.”

Other highlights included the announcement that 80% of the 355 lawyers and staff from Royds Withy King who were polled said they ‘wouldn’t leave the job tomorrow’.

Royds Withy King employs around 450 people across its offices in Wiltshire, Bath, London, and Oxfordshire.

Launched in 2001, The Sunday Times 100 Best Companies to Work For is the most comprehensive analysis of workplace engagement, opinion and satisfaction in the UK.

Rankings are based purely on the opinions of employees, who have put forward their views about their leaders, their working conditions and their employer’s values.

Excalibur is no stranger to awards, last year winning a Business in the Community South West Responsible Business Award in recognition of its commitment to creating long-term value while also placing social responsibility at the heart of the business. It also scooped the title of Wiltshire’s Happiest Workplace in an awards scheme staged by Bristol-based workplace and interior design consultancy Wylde IA in association with Swindon Business News and its sister titles.
