Law firm Royds Withy King, which offices in Swindon and Marlborough, has donated legacy IT equipment worth £100,000 to a social enterprise that helps young people from disadvantaged backgrounds gain the skills and practical experiences they need to secure work placements, further training and employment.
We Do. IT overhauls IT equipment no longer needed by businesses and other organisations so it can be re-used. The work is carried out by young people keen to gain professional and personal skills that will help to prepare them for the world of work and progress careers in IT.
We Do. IT was set up by Cheltenham-based office supplies firm Commercial Group as part of its commitment to being a responsible business.
Commercial Group managing director Arthur Hindmarch said: “We are delighted that Royds Withy King has agreed to donate its legacy equipment to We Do. IT.
“First it will be overhauled, enabling our young people to hone their IT skills, and then it will be recycled into the supply chain. Every £1 spent with the social enterprise generates the equivalent of £4.87 in social value, so Royds Withy King’s generosity will be multiplied when we sell the equipment on again.”
The firm underwent a major IT infrastructure upgrade with the help of Commercial IT Services (part of Commercial Group) following its formation from the merger of regional firm Withy King and City of London practice Royds earlier this year.
As a result, it was able to donate sophisticated IT kit to We Do. IT including HP servers, switches and security and back-up systems.
Royds Withy King head of IT Dave Eagle, pictured above, added: “Corporate social responsibility is one of our core values which the business is built on, so I’m thrilled that we are able to support We Do. IT and their young people in this way.”
The firm said its ongoing investment in the latest IT platforms ensured it remained at the forefront of technology and continued to provide a seamless and high-quality service to its clients.
Royds Withy King, which also has offices in Bath, London and Oxford, has been named for the past three years among the Sunday Times Top 100 Best Mid-Size Company to Work For.
