Whatley Manor Hotel and Spa, the exclusive five-star hotel near Malmesbury, has appointed Sue Williams as its new general manager.

Sue, pictured, is highly respected in the hospitality industry and brings with her a wealth of experience gained at some of the UK’s top of luxury hotels.

She spent the past four years as general manager of iconic Cliveden House in Berkshire, where she has overseen its refurbishment.

Prior to that she was general manager at the Bath Priory for 10 years, during which time she also oversaw Gidleigh Park in Devon and Lower Slaughter Manor in the Cotswolds.

Whatley Manor owner Christian Landolt said: “On behalf of everyone at the hotel I am delighted to welcome Sue to Whatley Manor.

“We are thrilled to have her on board and it feels like a very natural pairing especially with Sue’s extensive experience in the Relais & Châteaux five-star country house sector and knowledge of the local area.

“She joins us at an exciting time for the property as we launch a new range of spa treatments in partnership with Natura Bissé and build on the recognition received for our cuisine in the Good Food Guide, as one of the top 50 restaurants in the UK, with a score of eight out of 10.”

Sue takes up her new post at the 23-bedroom, five red AA star hotel on September 28.

She said “I am excited to join Whatley Manor and to be returning to my home county of Wiltshire. Having lived only a few miles away from the hotel at Grittleton for a number of years I have admired the way the property has grown and developed its superb reputation over the last 13 years.

“I am looking forward to working with the team as we take the hotel into the next phase of its development and strive to ensure Whatley Manor’s success story continues.”

Whatley Manor Hotel and Spa is independently owned by Alix Landolt and Christian Landolt. It opened in 2003 following three and a half years of extensive restoration. Its 23 rooms include eight suites and it has an informal Brasserie Le Mazot, a two Michelin starred restaurant The Dining Room, Aquarias Spa, a 40-seat private cinema as well as 26 distinctive gardens in the 12 acres of private land.
