West of England property consultancy Alder King’s Swindon office is to join its other bases in a project to work towards a more sustainable future.

The firm is sponsoring this year’s Business Green Week, which encourages firms across the region to become more aware of their impact on the environment and take action to reduce it.

Running from June 11 to 19, Business Green Week is part of Bristol’s Big Green Week and aims to drive a lasting legacy of sustainable action following the city’s year as European Green Capital in 2015.

Alder King took part in its first Business Green Week last year and subsequently won a Go Green award for its sustainable travel and transport initiatives, which included introducing electric bikes, pictured, now used by employees on a daily basis throughout Bristol.

This year the firm will extend its green campaign across its network of offices in Swindon, Gloucester, Cardiff, Exeter, Taunton and Truro and will focus its efforts on reducing waste both at work and at home, with a particular emphasis on paper, plastic and food.

Other activities include making pine cone bird feeders as part of ‘think global’ day, a litter pick on ‘act local’ day, encouraging staff to travel sustainably and getting together socially to enjoy locally sourced food and drink.

Alder King partner Chris Haworth said: “Taking part last year was extremely positive and productive, encouraging us to focus on and implement new sustainable measures that engaged our staff and made a real difference.

“We look forward to building on what we achieved last year and would very much encourage other businesses to get involved and reap the benefits of taking part.”

Business Green Week is an initiative co-ordinated by Go Green, a programme delivered by Low Carbon South West in collaboration with Business West.

Now in its fifth year, Big Green Week is a celebration of the best of Bristol’s social and environmental projects and the people who make them possible. During 2016’s festival there will be environmental events to inspire, involve, empower and educate across the city.
