A former social club has come onto the market offering a rare opportunity to redevelop a high-profile site in Calne town centre.
The Grade II listed Woodlands Social Club is thought to have been used as the town’s original fire station and then as the social and welfare club for Calne’s iconic Harris bacon factory.
More recently it was run as the Woodlands Social Club, finally closing its doors to members a year ago.
The freehold sale of the site on the junction of the A4 and the A3102 in the town centre is being handled by the Swindon office of property agents Alder King on behalf of the liquidator Steve Elliott of Monahans.
The property has been extended over the years and to become around 11,000 sq ft and includes a three-bedroomed caretaker’s cottage. It sits on a one-acre site with potential for further residential accommodation, subject to planning.
Alder King’s Martin Baker said: “We are delighted to have been appointed by Monahans to dispose of this strategically important site.
“This is a rare opportunity to redevelop the site and help breathe new life into a landmark building in the centre of the town.
“We expect strong levels of interest in the property, which is considered suitable for a number of various uses.”
