Hills Quarry Products has literally created its own milestones to mark the production of its millionth cubic metre of ready-mixed concrete.
The Swindon-based firm, part of the family-owned Hills Group, has produced a commemorative concrete block which now stands in its County Park head office.
It has also made mini concrete cubes pictured below, and sent them to employees and customers to help them celebrate the firm hitting the one million cubic metre mark. Hills is asking for ideas of how to use the cubes to be tweeted.
Group director Peter Andrew said: “Since opening our first concrete plant back in 2005, our business has grown despite some very tough trading conditions over the years.”
The firm now has five plants in Wiltshire, Berkshire, Gloucestershire, Oxfordshire and Dorset and six quarries. Its concrete blocks have been used in many major contracts across the region including new buildings at Swindon College’s North Star site, New College and the redevelopment of the former RAF Lyneham training school.
If placed end to end, one million one cubic metre cubes would reach further than the distance from Land’s End to John O’Groats and would fill 400 Olympic-sized swimming pools.
Hills Quarry Products also produces high-quality sand, gravel, stone, decorative aggregates and construction aggregates.
Other divisions of the Hills Group, a family owned business with a 115-year history, include waste management and recycling firm Hills Waste Solutions and housebuilder Hills Homes.
