A 44% increase in customers at Chippenham-based renewable energy company Good Energy helped push up its annual revenues by 12% to £64.3m.

But pre-tax profits in the year to December 31 fell by 92% to just £128,000 due to the cost of servicing £54m worth of debt and a rise in administrative expenses. The previous year’s figures also included £3.6m from the sale of one of its solar parks.

Founder and chief executive Julia Davenport said: “Good Energy has seen significant growth during the last 12 months. It has continued to deliver against its strategic business plan – investing in systems and assets, and driving growth across all sectors of its customer base.

“At the same time, the company has demonstrated high levels of flexibility and nimbleness in adapting its business approach to reflect the changes in Government energy policy, successfully delivering growth against this challenging backdrop.

“I’m confident that Good Energy is well placed to continue to deliver on its growth plans, through responding to the needs of the market and adapting to the changes in the energy policy landscape.”

Good Energy now has 68,000 electricity and 38,800 gas customers. Last year its total owned generation output was 77 gigawatts, up 83% on the previous year.
