Good Energy to generate 300 jobs in five years as its growth powers ahead

Green energy firm Good Energy has pledged to double its workforce to more than 600 people over the next five years as it maintains its rapid growth.

The Chippenham-based firm, which supplies 100% renewable electricity to homes and businesses across the UK, has nearly doubled in size over the past two years and now employs more than 300 people.

But as more consumers warm to renewable energy and the firm generates more of its power from solar and wind sources, it expects further expansion.

Good Energy has more than 55,000 renewable electricity customers and 28,000 gas customers. It operates seven solar farms and two wind farms producing 52.5MW a year and also works with a community of 93,500 small and medium-scale renewable electricity generators.

In the first six months of last year its customer numbers shot up by more than a third and last September it said it was looking to achieve a fivefold increase in customer numbers to around 900,000 by the end of 2020.

Good Energy director of people and culture Francoise Woodward said the firm’s growth was “a real testament not only to the great customer service we offer but also to the wealth of local talent we have around Wiltshire”.

The new jobs will span the business and include roles in customer services, business development, IT, innovation and finance.

It is already hiring for a number of full and part-time roles, including customer care advisors, team leaders and sales executives.

The firm also recently became accredited as a Living Wage employer, demonstrating its commitment as a forward-thinking and socially responsible organisation.

The Living Wage is fixed at £8.25 an hour – significantly higher than the national minimum wage of £6.70. Good Energy said it applies to everyone working at the firm regardless of whether they are permanent or temporary employees.
