Up to 350 jobs could be created in Swindon by insurance broker Be Wiser following confirmation that it plans to open an office in the town.

The firm, one of the fastest-growing in the UK insurance industry, said it aims to build up a team in Swindon over the next three years.

It has signed a lease on a 10,000 sq ft modern office in Dorcan and aims to be open for business in around three months’ time once IT and fitting out works have been completed.

The privately owned firm, which specialises in car, van, bike and home cover, employs more than 700 people at its headquarters in Andover, Hampshire.

The Swindon base will be its second office and comes as a result of its rapid expansion since it was formed in 2007.

It has been listed in the Sunday Times Fast Track 100 for three years in succession, one of only a handful of companies to achieve this. It also won Employer of the Year at this year’s Inspire Business Awards. It has been profitable since its launch and has ambitions to be one of the UK’s top five brokerages.

Financial director Andrew Dunkerley, pictured, who lives in Shrivenham, said: “We have known for some time that we needed to choose a new location for the future expansion and growth of the business and Swindon fits the bill perfectly.

“We are looking forward to being able to recruit from a new employment pool and we will shortly be on the look-out for bright, motivated staff of all ages.

“Our ability to be able to offer training all the way through the Chartered Insurance Institute professional qualifications is unique for a business of our size and demonstrates the importance we place on each and every member of staff.

“Our Andover-based staff and offices will continue without any changes and we view Swindon as being best-placed to cope with our future anticipated staff number expansion.”

Be Wiser worked with Forward Swindon to identify and secure the office in York House, Edison Park.

The firm acts for many of the largest UK-based insurance companies. It has more than 30 insurance companies on its panel and a customer base of more than 200,000. It recently announced a plan to reach 1m customers within five years.

It launched a commercial lines arm called Be Wiser Business just over a year ago to provide policies for a range of small and medium-sized business clients including commercial vehicle, tradesmen, goods in transit and motor fleet.

The firm was the match ball sponsor at Swindon Town FC’s home match against Rochdale when it hosted representatives from Swindon Council and Forward Swindon.
