Charity managers and trustees will be offered expert advice on mitigating risk and building-in resilience at a breakfast seminar staged by chartered accountancy firm Monahans next month.
The firm, which has a specialist team dedicated to supporting and advising charities, not-for-profits and academy schools, has lined up a range of speakers, including several of its own experts.
Also speaking at the free event in Chippenham will be Jocelyn Ridley of JMR Consultants, which specialists in trustee recruitment.
Among topics covered will be the lessons from the demise of Kids Company, how to restructure human resources when circumstances change, common problem areas when dealing with VAT and tips on how to recruit effective trustees.
Delegates will also have the chance to hear the latest charity sector news and an update on new legislation.
Speaking at the event will be Monahans partner Linda Boss – one of the first accountants in the UK to gain the Diploma in Charity Accounting, and who has personal experience of being a charity trustee.
Linda, pictured, said staff and trustees of charities face some complex issues and so this seminar would dispel some myths and give delegates practical advice on how to reduce risk and perform their legal duties in full.
“Our speakers will help charity staff and trustees navigate their way through some of the more challenging areas of running a charity, and point out the risk areas and what they can do to reduce or eliminate those risks,” she said.
“Forewarned is forearmed, and we think this is probably one of the most rewarding ways senior staff and trustees can spend a few hours, in terms of bringing resilience to their organisation and protecting themselves personally.”
The seminar is at Chippenham Golf Club on Wednesday November 4.
Breakfast rolls and tea and coffee will be served from 8.30am. The seminar itself will start at 9am and finish at 11am.
