Swindon-based construction company Beard has completed a much-needed new primary school in the town ahead of schedule.

The long-established firm worked with the Clifton Diocese and Swindon Borough Council on the 10,760 sq ft (1,998 sq m) building for Holy Cross School in Queens Drive, pictured below. Constructed as a design-and-build project, the building will provide additional classrooms for 420 pupils on the St Joseph’s School site as part of Holy Cross’s expansion and will also help meet high demand for primary school places in Swindon.

Beard director Marc Bayley said: “We are pleased to have worked with the Clifton Diocese and Swindon Borough Council to deliver this vital new school building.

“The new school will not only help to meet the increased demand for primary school places in the centre of Swindon, but will provide a first-class education facility and modern learning environment for local children.”

Clifton Diocesan Secretary Nick Tarr said: “We are impressed by Beard’s professionalism; this high-quality project was launched with challenging timescales.”

Privately owned Beard, which also has offices in Oxford and Guildford, undertakes design-and-build, new-build, restoration and refurbishment on a range of projects up to £10m for public and private sector organisations. It has significant expertise in education buildings.
