Swindon-based Barbury Kitchens has won a stand at the Grand Designs Live 2015 show in a design competition staged by appliance maker Miele.

Barbury, which handcrafts kitchens at its workshop at Salthrop for sale through its Old Town base and is also a Miele studio, earned top spot in its category in the contest for which it had to design a kitchen to a fixed budget with a number of Miele appliances. Designs were judged on style, innovation and inspiration.

Barbury sales professional Steve Burrows designed the winning kitchen in the ‘less than £60,000’ category. Set in a derelict chapel, the design transforms the space into a fully functional lounge, kitchen and dining area for a family of five, under a stunning vaulted ceiling.

The cooking and cooling areas are tucked along the back wall, creating more space for an island with integrated hob, sink and dishwasher. Corian Solid Surface is used for the worktops, bookshelves and cupboards.

Appliances include the Miele Pureline DG 6400 steam oven with M Touch display and Miele Mastercool range – a large capacity fridge and freezer with an air conditioning unit with room for 102 wine bottles.

The winning design has earned Barbury a 30 sq metre stand at the Grand Designs Live 2015 event in Birmingham between October 8 and 11.

Barbury’s team of 14 cabinet makers, machinists, polishers and apprentices collectively shares more than 180 years’ experience.

The firm is appointed fabricator for Corian, Tristone, Hi-Macs, Hanex and Avonite solid work surfaces and associations with Miele, Neff and Hafele.
