Timber door manufacturer Vicaima is promising a bright future for its UK head office and warehouse site in Swindon after buying it in a multi-million pound deal.

The international group, which employs 85 people at the seven-acre site on the Greenbridge Industrial Estate, said it had plans to develop it further and create more jobs.

Its warehouse on the site holds 100,000 bespoke and stock doors across 750 product lines for deliver across the UK and Ireland. Doors are made at its European headquarters in Portugal and enhanced for the UK market in Swindon before being supplied to developers, builders merchants and other clients across the country.

Vicaima door sales have reached record levels in the UK despite the major construction industry downturn in recent years – testament, it said, to the quality of its products. The firm specialises in innovatively designed interior timber doors and doorsets.

The site on the Drakes Way has been the base for door manufacturing in Swindon since it was opened in 1965 by Crosby Doors.  Vicaima took over a small part of the site in 1996 following its closure, sharing it with a number of small businesses. Over the years Vicaima has expanded until it now occupies the entire site.

Vicaima’s doors are used in new build and refurbishments from luxury apartments to five-star hotels and from commercial premises to public buildings.

UK managing director Barry Waddell said: “Swindon has been the home of doors for many decades. Our staff here are experienced and dedicated and together we look forward to helping our customers for many years to come.”

As well as Swindon, Vicaima also has sites in Spain, Brazil and Morocco and exports to 27 countries worldwide. Financial details of the site acquisition have not been disclosed.
