Law firm Bevirs has appointed Stuart McNeil as its new senior partner, replacing John Hunt who has retired.
Stuart, pictured, who is based in Bevirs’s Swindon office, has worked as a solicitor in Wiltshire for more than 30 years and moves up from his previous role as the firm’s head of litigation.
Stuart said: “I’m delighted to take on this role and follow in the footsteps of John Hunt. I’m one of six partners in the practice and we are all equally committed to ensuring Bevirs has a healthy future in business and continues to support the people of Wiltshire with their legal needs.”
Originally from Huddersfield, Stuart attended the College of Law in Chester (now the University of Law). He met his wife Claire while studying and considered moving to her home city of Bristol.
“At the time, opportunities for new solicitors in Bristol were limited and I was advised to look to Swindon which was expanding rapidly,” he said. “I applied for a position at Bevirs, one of the area’s oldest legal practices with a history dating back more than 100 years.”
Having joined the firm, Stuart spent two years as a trainee solicitor before becoming a general litigation solicitor and then specialised in family, probate disputes and employment law. He is a member of the Law Society Family Law panel, and Resolution, the association of specialist family lawyers. He is also trained as a Collaborative Lawyer.
Bevirs also has offices in Royal Wootton Bassett and Calne and employs more than 50 people. John Hunt, who specialised in dealing with non-residential property work, had been a partner in the firm for more than 25 years.
