Each week Swindon Business News gives a prominent member of the area’s business community the last word on its weekly e-bulletin.
This week Chris Griffin, director of Sensata, which specialises in IT support and services to small and medium sized businesses, answers our 10 questions.
What was the LAST:
Film you watched? It was actually three films. I took my daughter to the special showing of the three Hunger Games films celebrating the release of the latest film.
Book you read? Hmm, good one. I am not actually a huge fan of books. I think it was Gweilo: Memories of a Hong Kong Childhood by Martin Booth. The book is basically his memoirs of growing up in Hong Kong. I was born and brought up in Hong Kong, so it has a real connection for me.
Music you bought/downloaded? How Long Will I Love You by Jon Boden, Sam Sweeney & Ben Coleman from the film About Time. Yes, I am a romantic at heart.
Concert you went to? Sorry to say I have never actually been to a concert. Almost went to see Rod Stewart in the 70s if that counts!
Sporting event you attended? The Cheltenham Cup about two years ago. As a fan of F1 I do intend to make it to Silverstone for the British Grand Prix sometime soon.
Holiday you went on? Family holiday to Rhodes last year and a weekend away earlier this year in Berlin.
Restaurant you ate in? The Cunning Man near Reading. Fantastic food and great service in a beautiful thatched pub. Will definitely go back there again.
Thing that annoyed you? England Rugby in the recent Six Nations. They played fantastic rugby and still made stupid mistakes to give it away to Ireland. Well played Ireland though, as they did very well, as did Wales.
Thing that made you laugh out loud? My wife Janet. She always makes me laugh even when I am being a miserable sod.
Piece of good advice you were given? As boring as it may sound, the best advice I was given was that you only get out of life what you are willing to put into it. So you make your own destiny. Like it or lump it, you made it!
Having schooled in Hong Kong, Chris Griffin returned to the UK in 1979 when he went to Bristol Polytechnic (now UWE) to study Valuation and Estate Management, moving to Swindon in about 1983. He started off in estate agency working for a number of local firms until the end of 1989 when the property market collapsed. In early 1990 he joined the then PHH Home Equity Corporate Employee Relocation department, where he first got my interest in IT. Since then he has worked in recruitment and IT support and then as a senior consultant in IT document management and high volume scanning, before starting Sensata in December 2003. In his leisure time he enjoys films, F1 motor racing, international rugby, target shooting and has recently taken up golf.
