The Indian market will be demystified and the commercial opportunities outlined at a seminar for West of England firms this week.

Speaking at the event in Castle Combe, near Chippenham, on Thursday will be Siddharth Mukne, business adviser at the UK India Business Council, and Waseem Hussain, internationally renowned expert on doing business in India.

They will review the key sectors and opportunities and also discuss how to tackle this vast and complex country made of up 29 states, hundreds of languages and a dynamic business culture.

India has a fast-growing economy with one of the world’s largest youth populations. Rising personal incomes are rapidly creating a new middle class consumer market while wide use of the English language presents a great opportunity for UK businesses. India also acts as a gateway to other South East Asian markets,

Key sectors include finance, infrastructure, energy efficiency, education and healthcare.

The seminar is organised by UK Trade and Investment (UKTI) South West in association with Wessex Chambers and the UK India Business Council. It takes place at the Manor House Golf Club in Castle Combe.

UKTI regional director Russell Jones said: “With India’s growth rate set to overtake that of China next year, this is a vital market that shouldn’t be overlooked.

“While India is undoubtedly considered a complicated market, this event is designed to demystify the export process while illustrating the practical support on offer from UKTI.”

Delegates attending the event will also hear from South West businesses that have successfully made the leap into India and from UKTI’s cultural adviser Ameeta Virk, who will discuss how to effectively market and build relationships with Indians by understanding and overcoming cultural barriers.
