Swindon’s reputation as a hub for manufacturing innovation has been given a boost by the launch of industrial fan producer Torin-Sifan’s new state-of-the-art production centre.

The firm has invested more than £2m in the EC Manufacturing & Technology Centre, creating 25 jobs.

It is set to become a centre of excellence for the production of highly efficient EC (electronically-commutated) motor, fan and blower products.

The new building will enable an expansion programme focussed on delivering energy efficient, quiet and controllable air movement solutions for clients all over the world and has created 25 new jobs. It will increase EC production by more than 20%.

The centre at Pagoda Park was officially opened by North Swindon MP Justin Tomlinson and the Mayor of Swindon, Councillor Teresa Page.

It will continue Torin-Sifan’s British leadership in the field of cutting-edge air movement technology. The 25,000 sq ft base houses purpose-designed production lines, a sales and marketing suite, and staff welfare area.

It follows five decades of manufacturing in Swindon for the firm – its existing headquarters at Greenbridge will continue to manufacture its traditional product ranges.

Torin-Sifan managing director Neil Sproston said: “As we celebrate 50 years of British manufacturing and innovation, we are delighted to open a world-class manufacturing centre here in Swindon.

“At Torin-Sifan we are committed to producing high-quality innovative products and lowering carbon emissions, British manufacturing allows us to deliver this for our customers.

“This expansion of our manufacturing capabilities means we are even better able to offer our global customer base cutting edge air movement technology and improved facilities will benefit both customers and staff. To be able to manufacture successfully in the UK is testament to the quality of our products and to the skills base here.”

Justin Tomlinson described the new centre as a real boost for Swindon’s local economy.

“This is yet another example of Swindon powering head, as world-class companies such as Torin-Sifan choose Swindon to create jobs and teach fantastic skills,” he said.

“Unemployment is down by 63% since 2010, and our town is increasingly becoming a destination to do business and base industries. As a result we are seeing the development of a highly-skilled and diverse work force, which is securing our town’s future prosperity.”
