Law firm Withy King’s private client team in Swindon has raised more than £9,000 for the town’s Prospect Hospice by waiving fees to clients during ‘Make A Will Month’ in exchange for a donation to the charity.
The firm, which incorporates Lemon & Co, helped to draft or update more than 30 wills during the month. It was the fourth year it had supported the campaign.
Withy King wills and estate planning specialist Mandy Casavant, pictured, who is also a trustee of Prospect Hospice, said: “This annual campaign is an excellent way of raising awareness of the importance of wills while raising money for a very worthwhile cause.
“We are very pleased to play our part in supporting Prospect in delivering dedicated end-of-life care and family support services to our local community.”
Prospect Hospice provides end-of-life care to patients from the 300,000-strong community of Swindon and North Wiltshire.
Its head of fundraising Sheryl Crouch added: “Our Make A Will month is an opportunity for people to get a will professionally written and support their local hospice at the same time.
“Not having a will can have devastating consequences for people who are left behind after someone dies, which is why making a will is so important for people who want to make clear who will benefit from their estate when they are no longer with us. Importantly for us, it has also been a strong source of income for Prospect Hospice in recent years.”
Prospect Hospice’s Make A Will Month was supported by five firms of solicitors in 2014. The campaign is due to be repeated this November.
