More than 50 workers at the Swindon site of collapsed parcel delivery firm City Link have been made redundant, it was announced this afternoon – leaving 19 staff to clear a backlog and wind down the depot. 
The 54 workers losing their jobs at the site on Royal Wootton Bassett’s Interface Business Park are among 2,356 redundancies made by administrators at City Link’s depots across the UK.
Just 371 City Link staff are being retained to handle an estimated 40,000 items remaining in its 53 branches.
Coventry-based City Link went into administration on Christmas Eve after succumbing to crippling debts. It had suffered years of losses.
However, most workers did not find out until Christmas Day when the collapse was reported by media outlets.
City Link staff returned to work on Monday and in a series of meetings were updated on the administration process – which aims to sell all, or parts, of the business.
Most staff were sent home and told to await further contact from representatives of the administators EY.
Hopes were raised earlier today that a deal could be reached with a potential buyer but EY later said the unnamed consortium’s offer had been unacceptable.
