Swindon-based thermal imaging firm Thermographic Consultancy has become the latest business partner of the town’s University Technical College (UTC), which opened in September.

Thermographic Consultancy will raise awareness of the UTC’s courses and its achievements. The company’s founder and managing director Stuart Holland is also supporting college representatives at events over the coming year.

The firm provides comprehensive surveys of electrical or mechanical installation for predictive maintenance regimes. It also offers inspections to assess thermal efficiency and identify areas of costly energy loss.

Stuart, a Level 3 thermal imaging specialist in electromechanical engineering, said: “I want to help the students at UTC Swindon as they study to become engineers. They’ll see a whole new side to engineering through thermographic imagery, which we hope will inspire them. I’m a big supporter of the UTC model, and wish it had been there when I was younger.”

Stuart studied electrical engineering and installation full time at Swindon’s North Star College before joining Swindon Borough Council as an apprentice electrician in 1998

Thermographic Consultancy works with other skilled thermographers to identify heat loss, and monitor energy efficiency. Using the very best technology, Stuart can analyse images and video footage faster and more accurately than any other thermal imaging provider.

Catering for 600 students aged 14 to 19, UTC Swindon provides courses for young people who aspire to a career in engineering. The college, officially opened by the Duke of York last week, provides opportunities to gain the necessary skills across the engineering industries.

Partners of UTC Swindon shape the curriculum, create employer-led student projects and provide work experience for students. More than 90 industry partners are already involved.

It is run by a trust sponsored by Johnson Matthey Fuel Cells and Oxford Brookes University.
