Swindon agency redheadPR has donated copies of Simon Mayo’s children’s books to schools taking part in the Swindon Youth Festival of Literature 2014.

The novels Itch and Itch Rocks were given to the 11 schools as part of the agency’s sponsorship of the event and followed the Radio 2 presenter’s appearance at the festival at the Wyvern Theatre in Swindon on Wednesday.

Redheadpr founder and managing director Sara Tye, pictured, said: “We were thrilled to be involved with the Swindon Youth Festival of Literature 2014. It’s a fantastic initiative that will give the students of the town a passion for reading and creative writing. This is something we’re keen to promote across Swindon as writing is at the core of what we do at redheadPR.”

Simon Mayo’s appearance has been one of the highlights of the festival. He spoke to 600 Year 7 and 8 students. His books, which follow a boy who discovers a new scientific element, have been a hit with young readers.

The Swindon Youth Festival of Literature 2014, which began on November 7, is a celebration of reading, writing and creativity. It continues until November 27. Throughout the festival, students are working with authors, poets, illustrators and storytellers to present readings, performances and workshops.

Schools taking part are Churchfields Academy, the Commonweal School, the Dorcan Academy, Highworth Warneford School, Isambard Community School, Kingsdown School, Lydiard Park Academy, Nova Hreod Academy, the Ridgeway School, St Joseph’s Catholic College and Swindon Academy.

RedheadPR manages the reputations of start-ups, corporates, not for profits and individuals. The agency uses cutting-edge online PR and marketing techniques as well as tried and tested traditional PR methods.

Other sponsors include WH Smith, Santander, Micro Librarian Systems (MLS) and Bower & Bailey.
