Peter Johnson, the managing director of Swindon-based door manufacturer Vicaima and a well-known figure in the industry, is to retire at the end of this month.

Mr Johnson, pictured, started his career with Crosby Doors in the late 1960s in a technical capacity. He soon became operations director and then deputy managing director.

From Crosby, which was later acquired by Vicaima, he moved to veneering specialists Midland Veneers where he became managing director before joining Vicaima in 1996.

A spokesman said Mr Johnson had been instrumental in developing Vicaima UK from a relatively small subsidiary within the Vicaima group globally to a manufacturer and distributor of fashionable interior doors.

Mr Johnson, a keen advocate of properly certified fire doors, has also served as chairman of the BWF-Certifire scheme.

He is replaced as managing director by Barry Waddell, who has been commercial director at Vicaima since 2012.
