OATS, the Swindon-based firm supplying data to the global lubricants industry, has appointed Richard Carney to its board as chief operating officer.

Richard, pictured, brings a wealth of expertise in business strategy, including a highly-successful track record of developing electronic data products and managing development teams.

Trained as an economist, American-born Richard spent many years working as a product manager in data and publishing at companies such as DRI, ThomsonReuters and Ziff-Davis. He quickly rose to senior management positions, working on business development and acquisitions, predominantly in information services companies.

He said: “I am very pleased to be joining a well-established business like OATS that is committed to change and growth.

“I was impressed by the amount of technical knowledge in the company – both in lubricants and software development – and excited about the strategic prospects that lie ahead for the business.” Richard and his wife Ann have now relocated to the UK to enable him to take up his role at OATS.

OATS chairman Sebastian Crawshaw said: “I have known Richard for over 20 years and I am delighted that he has joined our team.

“His considerable expertise will enable us to accelerate our strategic development plan, building on our existing capabilities and launching new systems that will revolutionise the way oil companies turn data into solutions.”

OATS, which celebrates its 30th anniversary this year, also an office in China servicing the Asian and Australasian markets.
