Swindon chartered accountancy firm Banks is counting on the support of the town’s businesses to make its charity quiz next week a success.

The event, on May 14 at the Swindon Town’s County Ground, will raise funds for local TWIGS charity, which supports people with mental health problems through a focus on its community garden.

Entry is £5 per head for teams of four and 20 teams have already registered, mainly comprising local businesses and Banks’ associates.

TWIGS is Banks’ chosen charity for 2014. In previous years the firm has supported Prospect Hospice and CALM (Children’s Cancer and Leukaemia Movement), raising a total of almost £6,500 from various events.

Banks director Richard Mathews said: “We always support a local charity so we can give something back to the community.

“The team really pull together for the fundraising. This is our first big event of the year, but we’ve also had guess-the-weight and delivery date of a member of staff’s baby, as well as a sponsored weight loss.”

Other events planned for the year include a charity walk, golf day and race night, as well as a repeat of last year’s very successful Banks Bake-Off. The team are also volunteering for some gardening at TWIGS.
