Bluebird Care Swindon, part of the national franchised group that provides care in the home, has appointed Charlie Begbie as its new manager, seven years after she joined as a part-time carer.

Charlie, pictured, now 25, took on the part-time job while a student but enjoyed it so much she left university to work there full-time.

She was quickly promoted to a senior carer, and then became a co-ordinator with another Swindon care company. She joined a Hungerford care firm as deputy manager before being promoted to manager and then oversaw the setting up of a new branch in Leamington Spa.

The management position at Bluebird Care Swindon has given her the opportunity to work again in her home town.

She now runs a team of 20 carers and helps look after more than 50 people in Swindon and the surrounding area.

Charlie, who has NVQ level 5 in health and social care and level 7 in management, said: “When I started university I wanted to earn a bit of money in my spare time, so became a carer looking after elderly people.

“I loved it so much that I wanted to do it full-time. I am passionate about care, it’s a real vocation.

“I still enjoy going out and delivering care, as I like to be very hands on and caring is my passion. I love making a difference to those we offer services to, whether that’s to someone who needs minimal support, or nearing the end of their life needing palliative care.

“I like to be able to support my team, and truly believe they are the success behind me as a successful manager.”

Bluebird Care Swindon managing director Ben Curtis added: “After conducting a rigorous selection process it soon became obvious which candidate stood out in terms of not only their management ability but also their passion for caring for people, a passion that we all share within Bluebird Care Swindon. In the short time Charlie has been with us she has identified areas where significant improvements can be made.”

Petersfield, Hampshire-based Bluebird Care specialises in working with clients and their families needing health care in their own homes. The firm works alongside social services, GPs and primary care trusts, providing care that ranges from 15-minute visits to full live-in support.

It is now the fastest growing franchise company in the UK with more than 180 offices.
