Former Education Secretary Lord Baker of Dorking is in Swindon this lunchtime to see progress at the town’s University Technology College (UTC).

Lord Baker, who as Kenneth Baker was a long-standing member of Mrs Thatcher’s Cabinet in the 1980s, is a supporter of UTCs. His educational trust, Baker Dearing Educational Trust, is a sponsor of the UTC programme across the country.

He is being given a tour of the under-construction site and will meet directors, supporters and partners of UTC Swindon to talk about the Baker Dearing Educational Trust and the UTC movement, along with discussing how other UTCs work with employers.

Construction work on the £10m state-of-the-art building in Bristol Street in the heart of Swindon's Railway Village, started last November.

A full story on Lord Baker’s visit will appear on Swindon Business News later and in its free weekly e-bulletin. To subscribe fill in your details on the box of the left-hand side of this screen.
