Mobile banking apps built for Swindon-based Nationwide Building Society are in line for one of the computer industry’s top awards.
The iPhone and Android mobile banking apps designed for Nationwide by Bath-based IT consultancy IPL have become the highest rated of all the major current account providers on the respective mobile app stores.
They are among the contenders for the Innovative Mobile App of the Year category of the British Computer Society (BCS) & Computing UK IT Industry Awards.
The apps were created using an innovative blend of technologies and techniques, coupled with high levels of security, supporting both the iPhone and Android platforms.
The design enables a consistent customer experience while providing ‘native’ features such as touch gesture control.
IPL CEO Paul Jobbins said: “The Nationwide mobile banking apps are a shining example of what can be done by blending the right tools and techniques together in a novel and thoughtful way.
“The high customer ratings on the App Store and Google Play – where users are generally quick to criticise – show just how well these apps have been received by the people who matter: Nationwide’s customers. These apps genuinely bring their key financial information to life.
David Clarke, chief executive of Swindon-based BCS, added: “As the Chartered Institute for IT I’d like to congratulate this year’s finalists. They showcase not only the innovation and the professionalism of those working in IT, but also demonstrate the importance of IT in delivering business and social benefit.”
The awards dinner takes place on November 13 at the Battersea Park Events Arena in London. With more than 1,300 guests, the awards bring together the industry’s leading players.
