Swindon Speedway title sponsors Excalibur Communications has hosted a group of young people from Swindon youth project BIOS at Blunsdon Stadium to reward them for their positive progress.

The six attended the recent victory by the Excalibur Robins over Wolverhampton after IT firm Excalibur's CEO James Phipps heard about their achievements – and their interest in speedway – when he visited BIOS, which is sponsored by the Swindon Youth for Christ (SYFC) charity.

SYFC centre director Chris Priddy said: “The speedway trip came about when James met the group last month. He was wearing his Robins jacket and they asked him about speedway. We wanted to reward them for their progress so far this year and James suggested taking them to watch the Robins.”

As a long-time speedway fan, James is committed to strengthening the bond between the Robins and the Swindon community.

BIOS, established in 2010, is committed to positively changing the lives of vulnerable and disaffected young people in the Swindon area. It works with them to address the issues in their lives and enable them to make positive life choices.

James said: “Having spent some time with Chris and the young people recently, I was blown away by the work they do. They are truly inspirational people and the impact they have on their lives is clear to see.

“We were more than happy to donate the tickets for them and enable them to do something that they wouldn’t ordinarily be able to. We’re looking forward to continuing to support SYFC & BIOS and helping the young people progress.”

The group thoroughly enjoyed their visit during which they met team manager Alun Rossiter, who gave them the VIP treatment including a tour of the pits where they chatted with the riders.

Alun said: “It’s great that we could play a part in rewarding them for their progress so far this year. We are a community club and it’s great that Excalibur is helping us to extend our reach.”

BIOS is looking for local business to support its plans to grow its work and engage with 350 young people every week next year.
