Barclays has promoted director Paul Freeman to take responsibility for the regional office of its Wealth and Investment Management division.

Paul has worked in various management roles for the Barclays Group for more than 10 years during which he has been instrumental in developing a new operational structure across the South West and Wales.

Private bankers Matt Windows and Michael Smith have also been promoted to director and vice president respectively, as Barclays continues to grow the team and develop its talent.

Since joining Barclays in 2007, former professional cricketer Matt has used his significant networking capacity to develop a client base throughout the region and has contributed to several national Wealth and Investment Management projects within Barclays.

Chartered financial planner Michael Smith is promoted following consistent success advising clients on investments, retirement and inheritance planning.

Barclays Wealth and Investment Management regional head Ben Gulliford said: “Paul’s promotion is well-deserved and is indicative of our desire to appoint leaders with specific local market expertise. Paul has helped to build our South West offering into an exceptionally strong one, and is perfectly suited to build on our existing achievements.”

Barclays Wealth and Investment Management now employs around 40 people in the South West including private bankers, investment managers, dedicated charity experts, wealth advisors and credit specialists.
