Hills Waste Solutions, the Purton-based waste management and recycling company, has published its first Business Performance Report which charts its success in transforming itself from a landfill business and sets out future challenges.

These include criteria for making operations more efficient, reducing environmental impacts and engaging with stakeholders.

Group director Mike Webster said: “This is an exciting time of transformation for our business as we move away from reliance on landfill and develop strategies to increase recycling and utilise waste as a resource. It is important that we continually improve our business operations where possible and this review sets out our achievements to date and future targets.”

The performance report details the challenges the company had to overcome in the past year, and how it plans to expand and adapt its operations in the future to deal with the requirement for sustainable waste management.

The review reports on the performance of the company’s management systems certified to international standards of ISO9001 for Quality, ISO14001 for Environment and OHSAS18001 for Health and Safety. Hills Waste Solutions is one of only a handful of waste management companies nationally to have achieved all three of these standards across all of its operations and sites.

The company’s commitment to ongoing engagement with its various stakeholders is also covered, with particular reference to holding regular liaison committee meetings with local communities, the introduction of performance and incentive schemes for staff members and working closely with regulators to ensure compliance.
