Persimmon Homes Wessex has made a good start to the year with before tax profit up 65% in the first six months of 2012 at £98.7m.

The rise in profits has been driven in part with a more than 20% rise in part exchange for private sale customers using the incentive in challenging market conditions.

The regional managing director for the UK’s leading housebuilder has welcomed a strong performance from the company in the first six months of the year and says that demand in Wiltshire for new properties remains high.

Managing director for Malmesbury-based Persimmon Homes Wessex, said: “The start to the year has been extremely promising, with weekly private sales reservations up 18 per cent. We are working hard to deliver new homes to people in the region, whether this is private housing through our brands Persimmon Homes and Charles Church or affordable homes through Westbury Partnerships.

“In the coming weeks and months we will open new developments in Swindon and Didcot and have already welcomed hundreds of visitors to our new show homes in Trowbridge, Melksham and Salisbury.”

“Although the UK housing market remains constrained by the reduced availability of mortgage credit, we are confident that schemes like the Government-backed five per cent deposit mortgage product NewBuy, now with new lower rates.  This should help affordability for our local house buyers.”
