A former NHS site in Wroughton, once part the Royal Alexandra Hospital, has been put on the market.

The 9.7-acre (3.96-hectare) site at Brimble Hill is being offereed freehold by property consultants Alder King. It was initially developed in 1942 to accommodate medical staff serving in the nearby Royal Alexandra, which played a key role in handling wartime casualties and was later a major military hospital.

Oak House on the site, now owned by Swindon Primary Care Trust, has most recently been used as a residential care home.  Ash House, owned by Great Western Hospital Foundation Trust, has not been used since 2002.

Alison Williams, senior surveyor in Alder King’s Swindon office, said: “The site has great potential for redevelopment for a number of institutional type uses. We anticipate interest from operators of nursing homes, residential care homes, residential schools and training centres.”

Alder King is inviting offers for the freehold of the site. The site of Royal Alexandra Hospital is now used as a conference centre and housing estate.
