Swindon Commercial Services (SCS), the Swindon Borough Council subsidiary, has boosted its renewable energy offering following the acquisition of Cirencester-based plumbing and heating business DW Dunn.

SCS, which employs more than 850 people and turns over £65m-plus a year, has developed a sustainable energy division alongside its more traditional building-related business.

SCS business development director at Andrew Sims said: “Demand for sustainable and renewable energy services is set to grow over the long term particularly for domestic properties and SCS needed to expand both its capability and capacity to offer a wider range of energy related services to our clients.

“Acquiring DW Dunn enables us to reach a wider client base and self deliver a greater volume of sustainable energy and heating installations for our customers than we were previously able to do.”

The DW Dunn acquisition was structured with the help of Swindon law firm Withy King. Alex Pyatt, a partner in the firm’s corporate team, said the deal offered “significant growth potential for SCS” as the business looks to diversify into a new sector.

Mr Sims added: “Withy King’s team have the experience and knowhow to navigate through the issues that arise with such deals and Alex’s skilful management of the inevitable problems was much appreciated.

“He guided us through the whole process from start to finish in a thoroughly professional manner.”
