A new business club, the Marketing Breakfast Club, launches next week in Swindon aimed at helping owner-managed businesses kick-start their marketing and overcome obstacles that can hold them back.

The club, which holds its inaugural meeting on Monday, combines professional marketing advice with the benefits of meeting regularly with a group of like-minded small business owners, sharing their expertise and experiences.

It is the brainchild of Carolyn Page, of South Marston-based marketing consultancy Colporteur, who believes the club’s recipe of marketing, muffins and muesli will appeal particularly to small businesses owners who may feel isolated but will be encouraged through the club to gain marketing momentum. A number have already signed up.

Carolyn said: “There are three key elements to the club: getting marketing know-how from an expert, gaining support and ideas from fellow group members, and having the time to take action.

“Much more than simply talking about marketing, the club will offer the opportunity for members to get on with their marketing tasks; each person will do some work while they are there, whether that’s updating their website, writing a newsletter, or making sales calls.”

The club meets at Basepoint Business Centre, Rivermead, Swindon, and will run for a year. New members can join at the end of each quarter.

Marketing Breakfast Club taster sessions will be held on March 16 and April 17 to give potential members an idea of what it offers.

One business already signed up is The Village Apartments, run by Georgina Kirby, who first attended a taster session. She said: “I came away energised and enthused about this new way of doing marketing. It was like having a whole department available for ideas and momentum.”

Carolyn added: “Many businesses struggle to make time for their marketing, even though they know it is essential. By joining The Marketing Breakfast Club for a year – during which time we have nine meetings and members receive three Marketing Momentum packs – members will have the support they need not only to get going with their marketing, but to keep up the momentum.”

One year’s membership costs £365 plus VAT and there is a monthly meeting fee of £20 plus VAT.
