Car giant Honda is to resume normal production at its Swindon plant next month following an improvement in the supply of parts from Thailand.
The restart, on December 19, will also trigger mass production of Honda's latest version of its top-selling Civic model in Swindon. The new model goes on sale in the UK next year.
Severe flooding in Thailand delayed delivery of parts for the Swindon plant last month – the second time this year it had been hit by a natural disaster. The Japanese earthquack and tsunami also disrupted the supply of components and led to short-time working.
A Honda spokesman said the situation in Thailand had improved sufficiently to allow the plant to plan for a return to normal production activities.
Director of manufacturing at Honda in Swindon, Andy Piatek, said: “Our associates (workers) have shown great understanding over the last month and we are all now really excited about the prospect of starting to produce our new Civic.”
