Oped, the German medical equipment firm behind the revolutionary vacuum splint, has set up its UK base in Devizes.
The office, on the town's Hopton Park, joins the firm's overseas operations in Switzerland, Australia and the US. It will market the firm's revolutionary orthopaedic rehabilitation products in the UK.
The company’s founders, professor Peter Habermeyer and Andreas Hassler, invented the vacuum split – now its flagship product – to replace the traditional plaster cast in treating a range of injuries.
Oped, based in Bavaria, sells its pioneering products to more than 1,000 hospitals, clinics and medical retailers. Each year some 60,000 patients are treated with its VACOped vacuum splint for bone fractures or torn ligaments and a further 10,000 with its ankle splint, VACOankle. Its turnover is expected to reach £17.4m this year.
Oped UK has taken the 1,604 sq ft unit on a new five-year lease, off an annual quoting rent of £11,500. Alder King acted for landlords Program Systems.
Alder King senior surveyor Alison Williams said: “Oped UK supplies a range of vacuum products to medical organisations across the UK.
“Hopton Park is a popular industrial estate on the north eastern edge of Devizes, ideally situated to service Wiltshire and the South West as well as providing a range of modern industrial and warehouse premises.”
