Bristol Airport has joined a national campaign to cut air passenger duty. The UK has the highest flight tax in the world - 8.5 times more than the European average - and Chancellor George Osborne is planning to increase it by twice the rate of inflation in time for next year's summer holidays, according to the campaign.
The airport is asking travellers to email their MP and tell friends about the campaign "so together we can influence the Treasury whilst it is still developing its plans for 2012".
Since 1994 the campaigners claim that the air passenger duty (APD) has risen 26-fold.
Earlier this year Bristol Airport chief executive Robert Sinclair, said further taxes on aviation would make flying the “preserve of the wealthy few”.
Some 5.7m passengers used Bristol Airport last year.
