Synergy Health, the Swindon-based sterilisation specialist, has boosted its presence in South East Asia with the acquisition from receivers of Malaysian firm Sinagama II Technologies (Sterilgamma).
Sterilgamma operates two plants in Malaysia – a gamma sterilisation facility near Kuala Lumpur and an ethlyene oxide facility near Penang. It also has a joint venture relationship with a second ethylene oxide facility in Port Klang. It had revenues last year of £4.1m.
These operations will enhance Synergy’s operations in Malaysia, which include existing gamma and ethylene oxide facilities in Kuala Ketil.
Synergy, which provides outsourced sterilisation services to medical devices and healthcare industries across the world, said Sterilgamma would “require an element of restructuring prior to delivering financial returns that are in line with the rest of Synergy's sterilisation business”.
Synergy chief executive Richard Steeves said: "This acquisition further strengthens our position in Malaysia and the wider Asian region whilst supporting our strategy to expand our international medical device sterilisation network. The acquisition will also allow us to explore opportunities to deliver further hospital sterilisation services in Malaysia."
