Swindon-based Smiths News PLC has been named a finalist in the PricewaterhouseCoopers sponsored West of England Business Awards. The competition is considered highly prestigious and recognised as a major initiative to publicise business achievement in the region.
Smiths has been nominated in the Large Business category, for companies with a turnover of over £25m and more than 100 employees.
Smiths News PLC comprises several companies, including Smiths News, the UK’s largest wholesaler of newspapers and magazines, and Bertrams, one of the UK’s leading book wholesalers.
With a head office at Wakefield House in Swindon and depots throughout the country, Smiths News employs 5,100 people and has a turnover of £1.8bn.
The winners will be announced at a ceremony in Bristol on 23 June.
