Manufacturers in Swindon can benefit from a share of Government funding worth £7 million to improve and develop their supply chains.
The Department for Business, Innovation and Skills (BIS) scheme aims to improve supply chain processes through best practice, innovation and technological developments. The funding will be available through the Manufacturing Advisory Service in the South West (MAS-SW), the organisation which offers advice and support to manufacturers across in the region.
MAS-SW managing director Simon Howes said: “A streamlined and efficient supply chain is vital to all manufacturing companies to help ensure that products are reaching target customers as quickly and cost effectively as possible. Manufacturers should have robust supply chains in place which can deal with market volatility.
“Manufacturers should closely assess issues such as the cost of transportation, the most efficient use of resources and the ability to match demand with supply. This additional funding will help us to tackle these issues across all sectors, making the South West manufacturing sector stronger. It will also enable us to help SMEs access growth opportunities by entering new supply chains.”
MAS-SW has been actively addressing supply chain development for the aerospace industries for the past three years.

The 21st Century Supply Chains (SC21) programme is run in partnership with A|D|S, the trade body for advancing aerospace, defence and security industries. To date, the programme has saved South West aerospace and defence businesses £3.5 million.

Simon added: “The SC21 programme aims to accelerate the competitiveness of the aerospace and defence industry. It has improved the performance of companies, safeguarded current business and secured new business in these sectors.”
