Economy shrinks less than expected

Revised figures have shown that the UK economy has shrunk less than previously thought during the last three months of 2010.

GDP fell by o.5 per cent according to the Office of National Statistics (ONS), a 0.1 per cent fall in what was initially expected.

The ONS said that output from production industries, which include manufacturing and mining, was higher than previously estimated.
