Avon Protection has secured an order for nearly 15,000 specialist respirators from the Ministry of Defence to protect British troops from potential chemical, biological, radioactive and nuclear (CBRN) attacks.
The order is a significant boost for the firm’s parent group, Melksham-based manufacturer Avon Rubber, and production of the S10 respirator will last into the second half of this year.
The S10 has become a market leader since its launch in 1986 and is now sold across the world. The MoD has adopted it as its standard model for all military personnel. Avon Protection said strong UK and international sales were built on a track record for durability and low cost maintenance.
Avon Protection sales and marketing director Matt Evans: “This latest order from the MoD recognises the major part Avon continues to play in protecting British troops against the threat of CBRN attack.
“It also demonstrates the continuing success of the S10 as the basis of Avon’s evolving research and development programme in developing the best in CBRN protective devices.”
Avon Protection is now working on a next generation of masks based on the S10.
