Centre’s VAT boost to local businesses

A recent report by YouGov stated that as many as one in three businesses think that the VAT increase, which came into effect on 4th January 2011, will have a detrimental effect on their business.

To try to ease the burden of the VAT increase on SMEs, particularly start-up companies, Basepoint Business Centres is offering 20 per cent off office rental for the whole of 2011, to businesses who move in up until the 31st March. There is no minimum contract – just two weeks notice is required to leave, and all businesses are eligible.

Brian Andrews, Basepoint’s executive director, commented: “Supporting small businesses and encouraging growth within the economy is integral to our philosophy. The VAT increase is likely to hit small firms the hardest, particularly those who are not yet VAT registered, and so we hope that this offer will act as an incentive for businesses that would otherwise not have been able to take the decision to expand into an office or workshop, to take that step and grow.”

Basepoint, which has a site in Swindon, specialises in providing high quality, managed office space for small to medium sized businesses. This means that the impact of the VAT increase on small businesses is a very important issue to Basepoint.

Basepoint is the main trading arm of leading UK grant making charity, the ACT Foundation. All of the profits that are generated by Basepoint Centres are ploughed back into charitable causes which assist societies most vulnerable.
