There is to be a further boost to the rampant rejuvenation of Swindon’s Old Town in a new gourmet food outlet, Balula’s Delicatessen.
Specialising in only the freshest, organic, award-winning local produce and food and drink from all over Europe, the new addition to Old Town promises to be a hit in a market desperate for quality independent traders.
Occupying the former Nine Ladieswear premises in Wood Street, the whole shop is being fitted out to make way for the deli counter, racks for freshly baked bread, fruit and vegetables, as well as a cafe area at the rear of the store serving coffee and fresh patisserie from the South West’s own Hobb’s House Bakery.
Owner and self confessed ‘foodie’ Nick Smith’s eyes light up as he talks about his passion for the best ingredients, local organic produce and his sheer excitement at bringing his vision to life in Old Town.
“I eat, sleep, breathe food; always have done. I’m so excited to finally get the chance to bring my passion into existence here in such a lovely premises in Old Town.
“Another reason for setting up this business here in Old Town is that there simply isn’t a gourmet food shop or anything like it, and hopefully Balula’s Delicatessen can fill that much needed gap in the community.”
Such is Nick’s passion for his new business that he has named the delicatessen after his one-year-old daughter Lula.
Stocking a vast range of fruit, vegetables, freshly baked bread, charcuterie meats and cheeses from local and European sources, Balula’s Delicatessen opens on Wood Street in December.
