Gazeley, global provider of sustainable logistics, has been granted reserved matters planning approval from Swindon Borough Council for the proposed 796,649 sq ft B&Q distribution centre at G.Park Swindon, formerly known as the Triangle site.
Adjacent to the A419, the strategically located regional hub will service B & Q stores in the South of the UK. The facility on Plot A of G.Park Swindon is estimated to have a completed value of nearly £70m, and will bring 600 jobs to the area once fully operational. Additional employment will be created during the construction phase. No retail sales will take place from this site.
Don Morgan, the company’s Planning Director said: “Gazeley is delighted with Swindon Borough Council’s decision to approve the planning application. We look forward to starting on site in the autumn and will complete the bespoke facility by next summer. We are very grateful for the support we have received from the Members and officers of the Borough Council. We will continue to work closely with them, particularly to minimise disturbance to road users as we carry out several improvements to the local road network. We are also willing to help the Council with their plans for a new footpath/cycleway along Highworth Road. We are sure that this development will bring a big boost to the local economy.”
The building will include a number of eco measures such as the harvesting and re-use of rainwater collected from the roof of the building and solar panels to heat the water. A solar wall will use renewable energy to heat and ventilate the building. The development will also include substantial areas of new habitat around the building with the planting of around 500 new trees.
Under an existing legal agreement attached to the outline planning permission, Gazeley will make a contribution of £150,000 for the provision of public art and £700,000 to be invested in the Great Western Community Forest.
Other plots on the site are also available for build to suit opportunities.
