Swindon-based construction company Beard, which started the year with record order books, is continuing to build on its strong reputation in the education sector to improve Wiltshire’s schools in a raft of contracts in Swindon and further afield, valued in excess of £7.5m.

These include a £1m design and build contract for a single storey children’s centre at Westrop Primary School in Highworth to provide important new nursery facilities for the area and the construction of a new £2.2m Sixth Form centre and extension at the highly regarded Hardenhuish Comprehensive School in Chippenham.

Commenting for Swindon Borough Council about the new building at Westrop Primary School, Peter Richardson said: “Due to additional Government funding, we are delighted to appoint Beard to construct a completely new Children’s Centre for Westrop Primary school to include a new nursery and Children’s Sure Start facility.  With local authority funding Beard can now build new classrooms to replace unsuitable temporary buildings.”
Richardson added: “Beard succeeded in winning this tender via a very stringent, open process by demonstrating their ability to provide quality school buildings, on time and within budget and so we are sure Beard will deliver value for money and a quality build for Westrop Primary School.”
Beard has also just completed the construction of Highbury Primary School in Salisbury, a brand new school providing a purpose built, high quality learning environment for local children, and in Crowthorne, Berkshire, Beard have recently started construction of a new sports pavilion at the prestigious Wellington College.
Commenting, Marc Bayley, Beard’s construction director said: “Our reputation for completing on time, our experience in working within a live school environment and our ability to bring cost effective solutions to Design & Build contracts ensures we are rapidly growing in this sector.

In addition to these major projects we are now bringing our knowledge and innovative approach to work directly with head teachers and bursars on smaller projects and maintenance contracts.”
Marc Bayley added: “We have strong ongoing relationships with a number of local authorities including Wiltshire County Council, Swindon Borough Council and other neighbouring public authorities and we’re delighted to be working with them on projects that contribute to the community and the educational provision for young people.”
